Geopolitics of European Integration. Poland’s Past and Future

The main issue is contemporary  geopolitical situation of European Union correlated  with the process of EU-integration. Contemporary EU-Europe has to face immense challenges and threats: demographical, social, economic and also dealing with challenges of new, emerging power states on other continents.  Future of the EU-Europe is unsafe and there are many possible scenarios of Europe’s downfall. The question is: what conditions must be fulfilled that EU-Europe could stay as global players during the next decades. In other words: what is to do for Europe to keep its wealth and security?
The lecture will bring up the following topics:
Factors of political power in contemporary world: demography and migrations, ENERGY RESOURCES AND ENERGY POLITICS, NEW  TECHNOLOGIES, KNOWLEDGEABLE SOCIETY, MILITARY FACTOR.
The old and  new global players: the United States, EU-Europa, Russia, world of Islam, China, India. How multipole can be the World?
World’s forecasts 2015-2030: „Mad Max”, „the New World Order”, „Changes on the chessboard”, „Superstar Europe”;
National egoisms in the process of European integration; mechanisms of the negotiation of national interest in EU; Progress and hindrance of European integration;
Schools of „realists” and „idealists” towards geopolitical issues and European integration;
EU- Enlargement 2005 and the significance of east- central Europe. Has the EU-Enlargement 2005 changed meaningly the European geopolitics?;
European integration and transatlantic relationships, EU-Europe in view of the decline of the American power;
EU-Budget and  its main components: is the Brussels managing our money reasonably in the perspective of challenges of two next decades?
EU – neighbourhood policy;  perspectives of the further enlargement and the discussion on final borders of the European Union.

Lecture, discussion, workshop;  Participants of the classes will be obliged to organize discussion groups to prepare presentations of various topics related to the subject of the lecture
Class attendance is mandatory. Two unjustified absences could be accepted,  more than three cause no credit for the classes.

In-depth look at international politics from the perspective of its development in the period to 2030, in particular the prospects of the European Union;
More skills in reading media and news on international politics and European integration;
Skills to use statistical data in the web  e.g. International Energy Agency, US Census Bureau, CIA Factbook, Worldbank, , Home Madisson, & observe some main think tanks e.g. IFRI, CEPA, Atlantic Council, DGAP, Global Future Studies, Free World Academy, GLOBAL TRENDS 2030, ecfr.eu,  etc,
